Is there a rule in NHRA or IHRA for the bracket classes where your elimination times needs to be within a certain amount of your qualifying times? Looking specifically at NHRA Quick 16 and IHRA Top Dragster.

Right on the borderline of not making the show on engine alone. Was thinking of adding a shot of NOS in qualifying to make sure we are in the show, but then not use the NOS in eliminations.

Thanks.

IHRA has no Top Dragster class, the only thing they run as an official IHRA event is a bracket style race, therefore only safety rules apply. NHRA has no official Quick 16 class as far as I know, only what is run at individual tracks who can make up their own rules for qualifying and racing. NHRA does have an official class for Top Dragster so there will be rules in their rule book to cover the qualifying versus racing ET requirements.

Top Dragster in NHRA had a maximum dial-in, so guys couldn't spray their Super Comp dragsters to qualify then dial 7.50 the rest of the event. Don't race the class so don't know the specifics, the rule may still be there, maybe it's gone.

I've seen that listed in the rules in local events, never heard it mentioned for the NHRA or IHRA.
Just so you know, the bumps are frigging insane the last couple of weeks!!

I didn't write anything down, but I did notice guys doing that.
I was told a few times some guys will run 2-3 stages to qualify and then 1 during eliminations??

Are you talking about a quick 16 at a local track? The only rules in bracket racing beyond safety rules are track rules. It's all up to whatever the track decides. In most cases I'd say your idea would be fine unless they have an et break that you have to dial for 1st round.

NHRA Top Dragster has a minimum dial in of 7.70. I thought they all had a rule of your dial in elims cant be over a tenth higher than the last qualifier but that may be PDRA only.

Thanks guys. Looks like the rules I'm referring to would be track rules. I was just curious if there was anything specific mandated by NHRA or IHRA. I'm good now. Thanks.

NHRA TOP DRAGSTER / TOP SPORTSMAN

Not sure if these are current.

RACE PROCEDURES

QUALIFYING

Qualified fields as designated by each division/event (32-cars or 48-cars or 64-cars) will be run based on the NHRA Sportsman ladder. Top Dragster maximum dial-in .10-second beyond slowest qualifying time, no slower than 7.70 (4.99- eighth-mile) and no quicker than 6.00 (3.66- eighth-mile). Top Sportsman maximum dial-in .10-second beyond slowest qualifying time, no slower than 7.99 (5.29- eighth-mile) and no quicker than 6.00 (3.66- eighth-mile)

There was a bunch of 6.00's the last couple of weeks, didn't notice any 5's at the last 2 divisionals??
I guess every one wants to be number 1??

I'm pretty sure the new rule is that if you run between 6.00 and 6.10 you get a warning. If you run quicker than 6.00 you get booted from the event. They do not want those Sportsman cars in the 5's. On top of that, the class seems much slower this year. I see a lot of cars in the mid 7's this year.

The last 2 races I saw a 6.80's & a 7.00's bump in T/S.

I was talking National Events, not Divisionals. I always thought the bubble was 6.8's, but it seems like the fields are smaller and slower for the National events. What was the bump spot for the last three National Events? Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what it seemed like.
