I sold my 434w shortblock and now I need to build a new one.
My old setup was a stock block with 4.25 stroke and 4.030 bore.

I am thinking about the Ford boss 351 block, Callies Dragon Slayer crank, Diamond piston and a grp or r&r aluminum rod.

I have afr 225 heads, super victor with a single fogger.

Am I going in the right direction?

Go 4.155 suppose to make more power with that bore due to unshrouding the valves or so I've been told.

I had a very similar setup for a couple years:
4" stroke, 4.155" bore, 13.5:1, Dart sportsman block
AFR 225s ported (334/234 flow), shaft rockers
Supervic fully ported with dominator flange
1050 dominator by Davinci
FTI custom solid roller built for a small shot

Ran [email protected] mph on motor with a 1.34 sixty foot at 3000 lbs. Powerglide with 5200 stall, 4.10 gears on 28x10.5 stiffwalls
[email protected] best pass on a .082 nitrous jet at 3050 lbs race weight

It was a good motor, I never really tried to tune the nitrous much or turn it up. Probably would have needed to tighten the converter to pick up with a bigger shot. Shifted at 7200 rpms.

My current motor is a 9.2 deck 417" setup with Yates C3 heads and 2863 intake. On the same jet it went [email protected] at 3200 lbs race weight on the old Mickey Radials. I've been fighting different issues since that pass and haven't gone any faster ET, but have picked up to 125 mph.

Lots of guys using steel rods with no issues,bearings or otherwise.Myself ,I'd only use them in a max effort setup.

Dart SHP 4.125 x 4.1 438ci, AFR 225's, Super Vic intake , 850 AED, 2930#. Eagle forged internals, Diamond pistons, 13.6-1 CR. 6.11 @ 113 in 1/8 mile and 9.65 @ 138 in 1/4 on motor, 5.78 @ 121 on 125 shot with NX plate. .673 lift solid roller. I think you are close to the right track. Launch @ 3000 and shift @ 7000 with 1.69 low gear 'glide & 4.33 rear. 60' 1.28 with 28TT5's and 1.23 275 Pro's on so-so track.

Turns 7450 in 1/4 mile. L-19 bolts in the Eagle rods.

I had a 412ci with afr, 3.85 stroke with 4.125 bore, went 9.60 on motor with nitrous converter, and 8.42 on a 36 jet, never really tuned it for nitrous, more of a 1 shot deal at 2930lbs with a 1.28 short. That was 4 years ago.

I wouldn't recommend it, but made 1200 hp on an eagle rod. 4.0 stroke, 4.155 bore,6.2 rod. Had blue thunders on it but think an afr or tfs would be ok.

If you have the coin, what he had mentioned would be a nice bottom end, but I think it's overkill for that HP level. If you are planning on changing cylinder heads later on, it might not be a bad idea. I'd like to try a 4.100 x 4.155 bore with a 6.250 rod.

I think Compstar makes a 4.000 sbf crank....Use a howards billet I beam rod and Diamond/JE/CP for pistons.

I'm running 4.130 bore with 4" stroke, 6.2 Oliver billet rod, 428ci, eagle 4340 crank in an ford svo block, kasse p38 head on 2 kits. 5.21 best with a 1.20 60ft. The eagle crank is holding up great and of course the Oliver rods are too. Using Ross pistons also, great company to work with!

We also have an eagle 4.0 in our SBF now, 434 ci. 4.86/147. 4.89 in my other motor and 4.41/163 in a BBF grudge car, 4.5 stroke.

5.07 5 teens alot 2 years and counting only turn 7000 though.
