I've got a 4.86 Ford 9". It's set up great for 1/8th mile racing, but I'm running out of rpm for the 1/4. I hit about 140 by 1000' and only trap at 142.

I'm thinking of putting in a 4.57.

the question is, should I just change out the ring & pinion, or go ahead and buy a new center section in case I want to have two options available at any given time?

If you can afford it, a spare set up would be best. If not, you will have to change them each time you switch length.

Good point. That's what I was thinking.

My 4.86 is yielding 1.23 second 60' times and 5.69 1/8th.

How much do you think I'll lose in the 60' and 1/8th if I go with a 4.57?

2700 pound car, 5000 stall, powerglide 1.76, 555 alcohol motor, 800HP at the engine (guess).
