I have a 13:1 solid roller 489. Currently I am running hooker 2"-3.5" headers in a full frame car. But I am putting the motor into a tube chassis car and im not sure yet if they will fit inside of the frame rails.

I did get BBC headers for the chassis car that go outside of the frame rails and look like they will be an awesome fit and be very easy to work on. Problem is that they are 2.5"pri-4.5" collector. I know that they are a bit on the big side for my current setup. Would I be able to get away with putting a section of 2 1/4" pri and make them stepped or are they going to be too big no matter what.

If it helps at all the old car was 3550lbs and the new car is 2300.

The 2.500" primary tube is way too large for a 489, regardless of what rpm or power you make with it. So is a 4.500" collector. These headers will be more suited on a 632 with spray..2 1/8" or even a 2 1/4" will be plenty, or a step from both..but don't waste your money on the 2.500" tube. Limit collector to 3.500".
