Steve

I am a newcomer to nitrous and have just spent alot of $$<-(local speed shop sales strikes again) on a NX express Gemini Stage 6 perimeter plate system ("for Alcohol") with a 1 gallon a NX 1 gallon fuel cell for the Alcohol.
The engine is the typical SB chevy that is carburated and runs on 93 pump gas. To control this system, I have a NOS launcher progressive controler with the touch screen. The car has a automatic with a trans brake and a nitrous converter<-(or so they say).
Now I am being told that a alcohol/nitrous system will not work in combination with a carb fed on gas. Is there any truth in that? I have yet to run the car with the nitrous.
Also running a alcohol/nitrous mix I am told that I "may" not need to retard my timing as much if at all "36*" when using it because of the octane increase from the alcohol. I do have a MSD retard box just in case, but it is not installed on the car. The engine is realitively fresh with all forged internals etc. I need some solid advice here because I am on a STEEP learning curve here. I have never tuned a nitrous system or even driven anything quicker than a 13 sec car in over 30 years! HELP!!!!:smt100

Alcohol and gas are tuned totally different.

Ahh Yes I agree. The engine runs on gas, the nitrous is mixed with alcohol from a seperate fuel cell. I was told that spraying a nitrous/alcohol mix with a engine that runs on gas through a carb does not work well at all. I hope this will clear up any confusion.

I'm doing my first nitrous system also. I'm going to use C16 with my nitrous fuel cell and 91 octane for the main tank. I'm also only going to start with a 150 shot to learn the tuning aspect of it and plug reading. Then increase the shot as my knowledge level goes up. I'm also still going to pull timing and tune on the dyno initially. Then do further tuning at the track.

ok It seems I wasted alot of money for a nitrous system that will not work. Thats what I get for listening to people at a aspeed shop that have no clue about nitrous and studying a few books and articles about it to learn. I made some mistakes and there must have been misunderstandings on the applications of the nitrous. Now i basicly need to re do the system for gas. DANG IT ! I wish i had never put nitrous n the car.:smt076

I dont see why anything you bought would not work with just enriching with race gas instead of alky. unless you bought an alky fuel pump

any I'll buy the launcher with lcd.. if you give up...

I often say stupid things so this will be no different, but why woukd it not work. the only thing would be reading the fuel ring, but you could still read the ground strap for timing.

well, I really blame myself as much as anything for listening to the wrong people. Who do you turn to , when you dont know who is right or wrong. So here is what i did from the get go.

I purchased the NX gemini stage 6 twin plate system "for gas" All was good at that time. after talking to the speed shop junkies and doing some reading I believed that mixing alcohol with the nitrous with the plate setup under the gas fed carb was a good thing. So I eagerly jumped on the band wagon, I talked to NX and told them what i wanted and what I was trying to do and sent the system back to NX to be modified for alcohol. Nx changed or modified the solinoids and remachined the plate to flow more fuel for alcohol. After thinking about it now, I think they must have thought the engine was running off of alcohol and agreed to Mod the system to use alcohol.
So Now I need new solinoids and a new plate. $$$ I should have stuck with the original gas setup. The upside is the issue is resolved (I hope) and will be corrected before any damage was done to the car. Live and learn.

still don't under stand why you can't mix alcohol and gas other than tuning would be harder.

From the info I have now(i wish i could have gotten it MUCH sooner), It is the tuning issue because of the burn rates of the 2 different fuels alcohol/gas mixed together. I guess they dont like each other very well.
I wish Steve would jump in and clearify the cituation more so i can understand it better and learn. I am on a big learning curve and Im just not ready to tackle ther tuning issues involved. I got to eager when i purchased everything and went off the deep end. I should have kept it simple and learn from there.

I don't think so, because there are guys that run alcohol engines and run racing gas through their nitrous systems.
