ran car first time this weekend at an 1/8 mile track(track is only600' not 660').
made three passes running 6.8 at 98 mph with 60 ft at 1.7
had bad tire shake with first run and last two passes not bad.
the problem i am having is during burnout i am
not getting any smoke off tires. car is not hooking off line at all
this is new a car i just built and know i need to make plenty of adjust ments on rearend.
car is 78 camaro with bbc 454 th400 8 converter ford 9"4.56 with 4-link and strange double adjustable coilovers.
running mt 31.5x16.5
car weighs 3300 with driver and fuel.
i have ic of about 56 on four link
car was built to run low 10's in quarter
i have a feeling might be adjustments on shock, just not sure where to begin
thanks

How Old are the tires....

By age not passes.. There is an oil in the tire, it is the compound, it is what makes the tire sticky when it gets hot.. If the tires are old it may take a bit to get the compound to come up to the surface of the slick. If they are real old and in bad temp situations they may not ever work correctly. I have seen new tires that took 3-4 passes to work correctly.

From the numbers I bet they are Street Tires...

I was wondering about a 16.5 wide Slick that was only 31.5 TALL!

Dont put the cam in the car, have some one tape it from behind the left rear quarter panel at a 45* angle showing the front and rear tire with the car going away

I read this completely out of context with out even thinking "Camera"...

I think I actually got a chuckle out of myself when I figured out what was being said...

Picturing a Camshaft taped the left rear quarter at a 45 degree angle...

Are you doing your burnout in high gear? Not starting in high gear but shifting into. If your trying in first gear it will take a while for them to make smoke.........

Get someone with a heat gun and see where your tire temps are. Note that with how the car reacts, gear selection and video tapes.
