Need a cam

I have a 64 impala with 355 gears in rear. And a 700r4 transmission. With a 283 bored 40 over under the hood. I have 305 heads and somewhere close to 9.7:1 compression.
I'm looking for advice on a cam. I am looking for more of a highway car. 70 mile an hr all day long. Any ideas would be helpful thanks in advance!!

Keep it on the small side something like 202-207 at .050" on the intake and around 210 or so on the exhaust with around .450 lift.

You think i can go that big. I was thinking about the same on duration. But lift i wasn't sure. I didn't think i could go that big and still have a street car??!
call isky , I'd suggest the single pattern 256 with 108 lsa , assuming you have a good dual exhaust possibly with headers ? be sure to ask for usa made lifters .

Do you know what RPM the engine is turning at 70mph on the hwy ?
You can't run too much duration with that small CID engine.

We would normally be around something like this for a hydraulic roller:
Cam#: SBC, HR64325-66316-110
248/[email protected]"
204/[email protected]"
.487"/.474" Valve Lift, w/1.5 rockers
110 LSA
I figured [email protected] in od . If wanting to reto-fit for hr a stock vortec cam would work good .

I'm with canuc. Probably 2250rpm. And I'm running with a flat tappet cam.
I've been looking at isky 256 superr cam??
On a 112

With the cruising RPM that low, I would go hydraulic flat tappet
Cam#: SBC, H62279-64260-110
248/[email protected]"
192/[email protected]"
.418"/.390" Valve Lift, w/1.5 rockers
110 LSA
Fwiw my .02 , Cam Kings custom flat tappet would be very smooth idle and slightly more efficient at cruise in od . Isky 256 with 108 lsa would have a mild chop at idle with good torque off idle and at cruise with stronger mid and possibly +20 hp at approx 500 rpm higher peak .

I think the 256 super cam is on a 112 that i was looking at. I definitely don't want too choppy. I have poer brake and steering. Cam king said 110 for low rpm cruising. 112 a little too lazy for od?
Also can you or someone explain to me what advtised duration to look at. 270,280,256.244 ?? I understand that a shorter distance beteeen @50 and advertised means it's more aggressive. Faster ramp. And advertised duration having to do with crank rotation.
Is there a specific adv.duration i should be looking at for a cruiser?
That's why they started listing the .050" number as not everyone measures the advertised number the same, solid lifter ramp vs hyd lifter ramp vs roller lifter ramp vs race cam ramp vs stocker ramp ect., it's all different. Just look at the .050" number for what you are doing.

like bbf612 said adv dur vary between the different grinders so hard to compare if you don't know what its measured at . Yes a 108 lsa cam increases overlap compared to a 110 or 112 but it also closes intake sooner which builds torque with as small of cams your comparing I think its a non issue . When I said mild chop I mean mild but noticeable compared to a dead smooth small 110-112 cam . I think throttle response would be instant and engine smooth right off idle . Overlap at .050 with 202 dur and 108 lsa would be -14 call isky don't take my word on it .

Who makes that cam?
Who makes that cam?
If he's giving you his recommendation.....it's his cam.
I have his cam in my 436sbc and it's a bad piece!

Jones Cam Designs in Denver, NC
It's a custom cam. It would take us about 3 weeks right now, if you wanted to order it.

I have a new question for everyone. Do you all think I'd be better off with the power pack heads. Than the 187 screw port head? I have questions about the low timing. And no vacuum advance on the 187 heads??
I will be running a hei with a hotter coil.
