I am thinking of upgrading from a MSD 6AL to the new Digital Programmable 6AL-2. Quick question for those in the know. Would I be able to set up some sort of launch timing retard with this unit? I have a stick car and am thinking if I can pull some timing out it should help with the hit on iffy tracks. If so, could I just trigger it off the 2 step switch? Thanks

lower launch RPM on iffy tracks. it will loosen the clutch a little bit.

I already do that but just thought I need a new box anyway, might be worth having more options.

Yes, you can program a retard for launch. We have the 6al-2 programmable and use that feature on every pass, just adjust it to the track conditions.

If you have an adjustable clutch, I would just take some base pressure out of the clutch.

I use the MSD 6530, it has launch retard and a fully programmable timing curve (as well as 3 programmable rev limits). I love mine, I also keep a handheld programmer in the car so I can change it in the staging lanes as necessary.
