Moving from Cell Block 1 to Cell Block 2 in Chassis Prison

LOL ....Pulled my AMX from chassis shop two days ago. Owner / Operator “doesn’t want to build race cars no more” because he can fab gym equipment and headers and turbo kits far easier and less labor intensive than what I have. I could go on and on (like many of you here I’m sure) but I took that out and transferred the car to another chassis shop where (hopefully), he can get it done. He’s hoping mid-February.
Had a heart-attack 09/18/2020 and looks like by-pass surgery in January 2021. I’m 60 years old. I have no doubts I’ll pull through, but the thought of the family dealing with a bucket of bolts is troubling and we all know how well that will go. So not only do I want the dang project done, I want to go racing! New to me is a back-half car, a 4-link and a Race-Pak so lot’s to learn. If I can get it all together and run a mid 9 in SS/G, I’ll be plenty happy. But geez....these prisons can kill ya!

Chassis prison must be next door to Body shop prison and Machine shop prison......

Best wishes on your heart and blood piping.... I have some serious stuff going on myself that has popped up this year.

You never know whats around the next corner in life waiting for you.
Tripple bypass surgery was 01/25/2021. Came out well and ahead of schedule on post op procedures. But the really good news is I dropped by the chassis shop (Comp Chassis Phoenix, AZ) the Friday before surgery; not only had he been working on it, he was working on it! All I can say is I’m glad the work was stopped on the first shop because he was on his way to making it a difficult to tune chassis. Very excited to see actual progress!

Good to hear. Pics of chassis work needed!
.........I’m glad the work was stopped on the first shop because he was on his way to making it a difficult to tune chassis......
What design/layout/methodology (etc) was the first shop using that would have made the car harder to tune/adjust? Or what is the new shop doing a better job of to make the car better/easier to tune or adjust?

And good news on the medical stuff.

So during that bypass did you forget how to take pics and post them up?? 🤣 🤣 Seriously though glad you pulled through ok with the bypass. Post some pics. Lots of us enjoy looking at chassis build pics.

Shhhiiiitttt....I even had the surgeon take pictures of my heart while it was laying out in the open! Proved to at least one of my kids it wasn’t cold or black!
Stopped by shop today and he did a bunch of work while I was out.
The problem with old shop vs new shop, is old shop had front 4-link bars designed more for a tube chassis car and the IC would have been several feet up. Maybe an exaggeration, but you get the point. Shock adjustments probably would be a waste of time but I guess it would have made for some killer wheelies (maybe)? There’s a picture here showing the old 4-link front bracket compared to the new.
The front 1/2 of the roll-cage has been re-done now. A bars are much tighter to the dash. No way I was pulling the 50 year-old 75% plastic dash out of the car because it would probably crumble & never go back in so A bars and Dash bar are where they are going to go and that’s that. Will have X bars across doors.

Some sheetmetal work in progress. Must use steel, (not aluminum) for class.

Check out the fit between the tub and the quarter.

Nice! I’m going to have to check out that chassis shop.
Comp Chassis at 35th Ave and Union Hills area. Next time I’m over I’ll snap some pics of the other cars there (if allowed).

I’m on the other side of town. Just wasn’t familiar with them. Tom Yancer recently became one of my neighbors, but I think he does more dragster stuff.
Looks like some nice fit and finish work, always liked those cars.
