My 9 year old son has been researching Metal detectors on Amazon, but I dont believe any reviews. I searched on here low and behold there is already a thread !
Any recommendations for a novice detector that is accurate and easy to use?

A Garret or White would be my choice.
I have an old Garret coin shooter and I love it.
Also great for finding nuts you drop while working on cars outside :)

I have a Metal Detector and always grab any large speakers anyone's throwing out. Drop a fastner and a large speaker magnet finds it pronto with a click as it hits... Don't even have to bother with batteries for the detector I last used a couple years ago

I have been detecting for about 5yrs. I have a Whites V3I, Deus and a Minelabs Excalibur II 1000 and I detect off and on depending on my mood. When I just wanna find some money I go to the school at the football field under and around the bleachers and concession booth. I will only pick up nickels, dimes quarters....in 2015 I saved all the money I found for 1 year and it paid for me, my wife and 14yr old son entire trip to Puerto Rico. I also have 180 acres that has 4 old homesteads on it and when I want to find old coins I go to one of the homesteads. I will usually fins buffalo head nickels, indian head penny's. once I found a silver dollar.

Here is a link to a few of mine and my sons finds

"Went to 1 of 2 old homestead sites today on my 180acres...I found a wheat and Indian head penny, dug a Coca Cola bottle made in July 1959 that was in pretty nice shape, a couple of matching brass button and about 1/2lb of old square nails
...we moved over to an old well and this is what my 14yr old son found.....1883 o mint mark

I want to buy a new metal detector for my kid, because I want to teach him to use it. As far as I know, I can find a metal detector for beginners

I have an old radio shack detector I bought in middle school in the early 2000s. Best thing I ever found was 11 Morgan silver dollars behind an old barn at a house my parents used to rent. I sold em to a coin shop in high school and bought a set of double hump heads for a 78 Camaro I had at the time. Looking back, I was better off keeping the coins. Lol 😂

Anybody heard of Wilson metal detectors? They were a small company from Indiana that made high end units, I made the tooling for the search head and the enclosure for the electronics. The owner has passed away and they are no longer available, but apparently were very popular with the serious treasure hunters. I think the owner worked for Garret way back and went out on his own. I have an older unit, rarely use it other than finding surveying stakes. Maybe when i get a little older I'll hit the beaches, :D

This month I was searching for a metal detector as I wanted to make a perfect gift for my son's 10th birthday. I know he wanted it too much as I took him a couple of times with me on a "treasure hunt". He was very interested in that so I thought it would be a great idea to give him a metal detector. But it was a real challenge for me to find a good one for my son. a friend of mine told me that I can find something good on this site https://metaldetectorlink.com. He was right, I found DR.ÖTEK Junior, this metal detector is specially designed for kids and has some great features for kids. I bought it and I could not wait anymore to give to my son, but I have to wait a little bit more, only a couple of days and we will go to the beach to seek for some "GOLD"
