Fun Ford Weekend presented by JE Pistons and Roush Yates is back at Bristol Dragway and it’s better than ever. High-performance racing action, Ford’s sweetest street machines and extreme exhibition vehicles make the June 29-30 event one of the most exciting Ford events around.
Action begins on Friday with a test and tune session open to all manufacturers. The day also includes Ford vs. The World, an event that pits the Fords against all comers. Ford fans should come cheer their favorite brand to victory over the invading Chevys and Mopars.
Electronics and non-electronics will run separate in Ford vs. The World competition until there are four cars remaining in each class. The classes then will be combined to determine the ultimate champion.
Exciting Ford-only competition continues on Saturday in Fast Ford (Electronics), Quick Ford (Non-Electronics), Street Ford (1/4 mile), True Street, Mustang Street Fight, Tuff Truck and the Virginia Lasers Shootout.
True Street racers will follow a police escort on a predetermined route throughout the local area to prove their machines are street-worthy. Once they return, they’ll battle to see which can run closest to its index.
The Mustang Street Fight Class is open to any street-legal Ford vehicle. Trophies will be awarded for quickest elapsed time, best reaction time and best appearing.
Yesterday’s classics, as well as today’s favorites, will be on hand in the car show display area on Saturday. Participants and spectators can enjoy a parking lot full of the hottest Ford show cars and drag cars. Any Ford die-hard looking for special memorabilia or those hard-to-find parts also will want to check out the vendors’ midway and the swap meet and car corral.

Heads-up @ BMS is like a special forces operation into Pakitstan. It only happens when we circumvent standard Bristol Protocols and take over for brief moments. Our gang of hoodlums supported the Ford weekend last year and had an all comers outlaw race. Best race was Richard Markland put Kinzer on the trailer with his juiced sbf LX vs Willards F3 backhalf cobalt. There were 8 finals, 4 winners using our Va Laser format. The event had less spectators than a tnt. It was far removed from say the scene @ Maple Grove FFW circa 1992. The rest of it was horrible. This year it is another promoter but it's not the original FFW. It's a track consortium behind the venture so I don't know how it will turn out. Same thing, maybe even same players as Super Chevy is now. Brandon doesn't even like drag racing let alone heads up. The bracket program is lucky to be in Reds hands as he has the "it" factor for brackets. The facility is killer, 95% of the staff are great ppl but it will be interesting to see if FFW will be anything more than a glorified streetfights.

I could go on and on, hell I could post hours of video to back it up, but I am not trying to ruffle feathers. I would just like to see the track come back to the community instead of kissing a few failing asses. ADRL was a killer event and look how poor the attendance was for it. I know a lot of people place blame on series but the truth is a series can be judged on it's ability to provide the teams, the fans are local to the venue's. Unless the promoter has strong local ties and understands the market, the venue HAS to take up the role of bringing the fans to the gate, especially in today's saturated market.

I always like to see people get to experience the track and to come down, just to be honest tho, I wouldn't get real excited just yet. They are busy right now kissing up to NHRA since it's like they have to work all year just to host one group. There is some hope in Ben for mgt tho. He busted tail for the bike event last year but they squashed it this year because of politics I think. Needless to say I will most likely be there as I am usually each week.

I hadn't looked prior, I just know there isn't really any excitement about the event, at least none I've seen yet. It looks like thurs is a sf, then fri & sat is fun ford. Funny it still has last years Va Laser in there. The only dates they took this year were may and sept.. Gotta check that out tomorrow but it looks like Wes just used last years pr and didn't ammend.

They gave out nice flyers at the ADRL race. Plenty of interest around here from the Ford guys I know, most have planned a vacation day around it. Even have someone I know wanting to run the 5.90 deal. I ran my Chevy last year at Ford vs the world but never got an email or a flyer in the mail. Did get a flyer from Mopar as I ran that also.

To their defense, most of the staff is great, they just have no authority on decisions, it's the manager that holds bms back. Even the staff tells me how he has said he doesn't like drag racing. Had Jeff Byrd not passed, we would prob have a strong program again by now.
