I see a trend in import manifolds being produced from schedule 10 or 40 weld els (0.110" or 0.145"). I haven't seen this in the domestic world. It seems most headers are produced in 16ga (0.065") wall thickness. The even stranger thing to me is that the turbo size for the domestics hangs more weight off the manifold than you would see in an import application. Is it simple bracing of the turbo's weight making 16ga work in these applications?

The turbos are almost always fully supported with 16 gauge. My production 6 cylinder sch10 manifolds weigh around 20lbs. An 8 cylinder would easily weigh in at damn near 50lb-60lbs in headers. I only use sch10 in 4 and 6 cylinder apps where there is no turbo support.
