Well I did a little chemistry experiment this afternoon. I blended 500ml of M5 + 250ml of Nitrorace 50 and it yielded a blended specific gravity of .849 @ 57 degrees or about 15% nitro by weight.
The VP technical bulletin says the M5 specific gravity should be .816 @ 60 degrees or about 5%, my M5 specific gravity was .807 @ 61 degrees or about 4%. I was un able to test the Nitrorace 50 as my hydrometer is a .800 to .900 for a max of 30%.
I would have expected that if I had blended 500ml of M1 with 250ml of the Nitrorace 50 it would have yielded a blend of around 12%.
Now I am not sure if the 15% nitro by weight value is correct because of the combustion additives and top lube in the M5. Anyone want to comment on this value.
Sorry I didn't get back quick enough. Paul has a pretty dang good handle on the nitro and alcohol info. Personally I would just take the Nitro 50 and blend it down with M1 to get the ratio you want. It the old days, for every 5% nitro we put in alcohol, I recommended at 15% fuel increase. Once you get past 20% nitro though, the mix was harder to light and you may run into some issues.
