Turbo 350 you don't want to come out of a burnout in 2nd especially if the tires bite. The 2nd gear sprag is the weakest link in those transmissions and tires biting after a burnout in 2nd will break it.

Yikes! I did not know that. When I had it at track back in October as soon as I hit second gear I rolled out. Can I do first, second and then as soon as I hit 3rd roll out?

Yes. I get my tires started in 1st, quickly shift to 2nd and make sure I'm in 3rd briefly before finishing. My AODE has a sprag that can be damaged also.

Every trans builder I have worked with (CK, Extreme & Hutch) have all told me, do not start your burnout in first gear. 2nd to 3rd. You're on a radial so it doesn't need to be a big burnout.
Not an option with an automatic valve body.

I just get the tires rolling in first, then shift to second. Perform burnout in second, then shift to third and leave the burnout under power. Never hurt a transmission in 20+ years like this.

I haven't raced a full auto trans since 1982, so forgive me if I'm forgetting.
If you put the thing in 3rd/drive it will shift in the water.
Why not just put it in drive and let it shift itself so you won't come out in first or second if you miss a shift??

What I do, start burnout in 2 gear getting the rpm up. Tires barely smoking. Pull forward. Put in neutral and do a quick clean out and into 1st. Doing a 2 or 3 gear burnout and not stopping and going into neutral and back to 1 before staging will eventually have you leaving the light in 2 or 3 gear. Everyone here has done that.

I have found that a line lock on the starting line does not work. Not that the line lock fails but the front tires slide when you apply any amount of torque to preload the car. I use my line loc for burn outs only. I have not had any trouble with shifting the car during the burnout. Done this for many years with no trans or converter damage. However, burning out and allowing the tires to grab under load can be problematic. As you exit the box try to ease out of the throttle so the tires can spin down and not slam the trans. I did have to bite the bullet years ago and install a trans brake. The best ever launch device out there. In the mean time I think I would still foot brake and save up for a trans brake. Just my 10 cents!!! J
