I would also suggest you stop shifting in the water.
Do a high gear burnout.

I haven't raced a full auto trans since 1982, so forgive me if I'm forgetting.
If you put the thing in 3rd/drive it will shift in the water.
Why not just put it in drive and let it shift itself so you won't come out in first or second if you miss a shift??
