So I had a brick of 80/20 ground beef sitting in the fridge, and I didn't know what I wanted to do with it. Out of nowhere I had a culinary epiphany, and decided to make beef kebabs as quickly and simply as possible. I cut the brick into thirds, and seasoned them with salt, pepper, curry powder, Olive oil, and chile-garlic sauce. Total prep time was about 60 seconds once I had a plan. Then I skewered those MF'ers and tossed them on the grill.

Ho Lee fook these things were good. Effort:satisfaction ratio was off the charts. I was going for a Mediterranean/Turkish sort of flavor profile, and I think I got there.

I'll be doing these again.

I'm gonna try them too

Pretty much. I wasn't going for a burger flavor profile, but when you get down to it, ground beef is ground beef. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to picture one of these in a hotdog bun.

I looked at it for awhile, and coudnt figure out why it wouldn't fall apart. Then I had the light bulb go off and say, it's like an burger... but heres where it went nuts.
I've had something very very similar and it was fucking amazing.

It was a greek style marinade with 75% beef and 25% Lamb and it was fucking amazing.

So thanks. Im going to do both

What you're describing might be something along the lines of "kefta" or a number of other dishes with Middle-Eastern or Mediterranean roots. Very common in Europe, and starting to making the rounds here in the States.

Just about any GI who's stumbled out of a bar in Germany has probably had a "doner kebab" which is a sandwich sort of thing with ties to the same culinary history.

This looks awesome but I don’t really cook and I’m confused by “80/20 ground beef”, is it something special? I usually just use lean ground beef from the grocer for burgers.

I do similar but put them in a vertical electric grill that has elements on both sides.

Very quick way to make a "gyro" / "kebab" indoors .... can then wrap it up in pita bread and add whatever you want in there... lettuce, tomatoes, raw onions, garlic sauce etc.

Its not the same as the slooow cooked meat on the rotisserie of course, but it can get close and its much quicker.

And with ground beef or lamb theres never any tough bits in the meat, it just melts in your mouth.

Not special at all. 80/20 refers to the meat to fat ratio. Your typical "lean" ground beef is around 90% lean, aka 90/10.

The grill I use is an old hotpoint, id guess its almost a foot wide by 10 inches tall inside.

But I have 3 of them so can get all 3 going when needed. They just need to be fed from seperate breakers LOL if all 3 are in... 2 are usually ok in one double socket.

As far as I know its tough to find them new, but they seem to sell them in italy (which means wrong voltage for the US) ...
