just starting to do some research on the laser eye surgery. has anyone had this done? how were the results, how did it effect your eyes at night for driving or racing? any pros or cons?

I've talked to several optometrists about it. They all agreed that for certain vision problems it is a great cure, and for others it's a procedure that will most likely have to be re-done after several years. I opted based on the condition of my eyes to just go the glasses route. Wearing glasses sucks bigtime, But it beats not seeing.

I had LASIC done about 8 years ago. it was the best money Ive spent.

what Mitch Perkins said about it suiting your needs is true though. there are some folks that just wont benifit from it like others will. if its simple near sightedness............ the flap & zap is the way to go.

there are down sides to EVERY eye surgury, make sure your Dr. explains them all.

best thing i ever did! had the lasic done also. been four years and still perfect...... cool thing is that its for life. if your vision starts to go again in a few years, you just go back in for a tune up. free of charge.

I forgot to mention that I do have a little night time "star bursts", but to be honest, I dunno if it was like that B4 cause I could not see nothing w/o my glasses. so............

My girl had the all laser vision correction done just last year, she was legally blind without her glasses. Now she can see perfect. Just be ready to wear goggles and turn your ceiling fans off for a month or so. Her eyes dried out really bad after the surgery. Just lasted for a month or two though...then back to normal.

But, there are plenty of places out there that will just do the surgery. Make sure you get a couple of opinions. Some places, if your just doing it for convenience and your eyesight isn't horrible will tell you up front....wait a little while for technology to catch up and you will be better off.

Without a doubt

I was legally blind in my left eye to the tune of 20/700 with an astigmatism. I paid $2700 for 1 eye! BUT... it was the best $2700 I ever spent. Had it done about 5-6 years ago now and my vision still checks in @ 20/25 in that eye.
My only suggestion is to do your homework and find a good, reputable Dr. Its the only eyes your gonna get and as with most anything else... good is not cheap and cheap is not good. After all that, if you qualify then GO FOR IT!!!


oh yeah--- no night problems at all. I had to wear the shields just for a couple of days after that it was business as usual!!!

I had PRK done in December of 2004. It was the best thing I ever did! Recovery, especially night vision, takes longer than LASIC but each surgery has their own pros and cons.

My father had it done and wished he would have had it done sooner. Hasnt effected his driving any. He still cuts the tree down and drives over 200 MPH. Hope it goes as well for you as it did for him.

Here's my big issue. I can't wear contacts simply because I can't stand anything touching my eye, other than my eyelid.

So, how exactly do they hold you still to get this accomplished?

Eh it's a little shifty... my specific Dr... got me HIGH as all hell on Valium. Kept asking how I was feeling...kept telling him I felt normal. BAM another pill. LOL For real though. They give you valium to calm you down. Once you go in, they lay you down and put this little rig in your eye to hold it wide open...kinda like a spring loaded prop. Then they drop some sort of an antisthetic (sp?) to numb your eye. You dont feel a thing but you smell some interesting things (think burning hair). There was no pain or discomfort associated at all though. Just an interesting experience. Kinda weird when they peel the flap (lens) back. Its at that point I learned what REAL bad vision is all about. LOL Seriously though it was painless.

Im not sure if they can or cant. I'd venture to guess that they cant. It's actually a relatively speedy procedure and I am sure they are trying to get as many peeps moved through in a day as possible so the Doc's can keep those boat payments up and runnin. Anyone? Anyone?

thanks so no concern with driving at night or starburst effects? what about alcohol fumes. right now i have contacts and those fumes do not effect me. my eyes never water so i assume it is because the contacts protect my eyes. samething with onions. now if i have my glasses on i will cry. i have no problems with my contacts but it sure would be nice to go swimming without wearing goggles or take my contacts out and wakin up in the morning and being able to see would be the bomb.

Most folks that have the "starburst" effect, have had RK done. its when they litterally cut radial lines from the middle of the eye out. this is what causes that.

I had LASIC. I have a simlar thing, but I cant say that its from the LASIC or not.

I have very light blue eyes & they have always been sensitive to light, which is why I always wear sunglasses outside. nothing changed there.

I would say that my eyes are more sensitive to gas/fumes than when I wore contacts (which I always did cause I HATED my coke bottle bottoms).
