Is this a delinquent tax matter? If it is, it must have been going on for a hell of a long time. I can't imagine the IRS busting in to your house and confiscating your stuff unless all the negotiating has failed. These things don't just come up overnight. It would take years of legal stuff before it gets down to taking your property like has been described. This would be considered as a last resort.

George,
You are right. Some one comes to your house, takes 200K worth of property and they dont know why? That post to clear the air was only part truth.

I have to agree with your guys also. If the Feds or any goverment agency comes to your home and takes stuff, you know why.

There is a law that states that we have to pay income taxes to the government. Maybe we don't want to do it but it's the law. I don;t like to do it but it's the law. The IRS is tasked with handling our tax payments. If you don't pay, or if you fuck up and make a mistake, the IRS will contact you and allow you to either pay up or discuss the problem if there is a dispute. They don't just knock your front door down and walk into your house with guns blazing and grab your stuff. I have never had a problem with the IRS. I don't take any goofy deductions that raise the red flags and I always pay on time (quarterly payments). I tell my accountant, "if you have any doubt as to some deduction being legal or permitted or not, don't take the deduction." If I'm going to make a mistake, I'm going to make a mistake in the governments favor (I'm a patriot after all).

Two weeks ago, I recieved a letter from the IRS that I underpaid by $125 on my 2006 taxes. A 1099 from one of my "revenue streams" was sent in to the feds but not to me, so it was never included on my taxable income, and I forgot about it. There was $13 of interest that I owed bringing the total to $138 that I owed the feds. They were 100% correct. They could have charged me a penalty too, but I guess they figured out what happend and just charged me the interest. It was handled efficiently and professionally by the IRS. I sent them a check the same day I got the letter. I know this sounds kind of corny but I was pleased to know that the IRS was on top of things like this. My 2006 taxes (payable in April of 2007) was not that long ago and they already found the problem and alerted me to it. Not bad for a government beauracracy in my opinion.

I have no issues with the IRS. They don't spend my money, they just collect it. I wish that they collected less of it but that's not the IRS's fault.

Just remember this, if the IRS or the feds "think" you are doing something that does not add up or involved with some one else that is up to something and they "think" you are helping them out (like money laundering), they have a right to seize all your assets and records to try to build a case against you. If they can’t tie the property to the illegal activity, you get your stuff back. If they can link it, it’s gone forever!

I only know this because a friend of mine had it happen to him. He had sold a number of cars to a guy off his car lot who, I guess, made his money “under the table.” They came in and took all my buddies stuff, keep it for 3-4 months, thousands of dollars later in lawyers fees, they gave his stuff back and said sorry for you time! Nice!

I have known Phil for many years, I hope this all works out for him! Mike.

I have a friend that has never paid income tax. Self employed and a tax protester. He tried talking me into it but I chickened out. Every few years they haul him to court. He's won every time. He leases his cars and rents his house and hides his money just so they can't take anything. I don't think I could live that way. He's got bigger balls than me.
His wife got tired of it and left him.

Yep, you have to be able to live like that. Theyll seize your accounts and notify your employer to stop paying ya.

I don't know about throwing him out of the country, but I'm really surprised he's not in federal prison. He's a leech that thinks everyone owes him. That damn IRS has some serious ass power. I sure as hell don't want them on my ass. All my taxes are paid in full.
