In one of the automated ads here, I saw a Flotek SBF head with a peculiar exhaust port. My gut tells me the first thing to do is to grind that vane out, but I'm curious what you all think? Intake vanes are fairly common, but I've never seen one on the exhaust.

Thought?

Old school BB Chev alum heads had vane in ex port. First thing guys did was grind it out. It's just taking up area.
I knew I saw that years ago. What vintage were they?

The NEWLY designed THUMPER 180 features a raised "FLOOR" and "ROOF" design. Why you ask? This allows a better approach to the valve when attempting to achieve high performance and to keep air and fuel attached to short turn radius for increased torque over a wider RPM range without sacrificing high RPM power! Coupled with NEW CHAMBER DESIGN for better wet flow quality and a NEW "W" DESIGN EXHAUST PORT to keep flow attached to the port floor which greatly increases exhaust gas evacuation verses original 180cc design. Always thinking of the racer, our FLOTEK THUMPER 180 accepts stock manifold!

Years ago I remember seeing the Lee Shepard exhaust ports on the R and M Pro stock...skinny long rectangle kind of like a 2 stroke exhaust chest...thinking WTF? that is the current tech now? later in life I learned it was where they drilled the solid heads to get water in and welded them back up.

It would be interesting to hear Calvin Elstons thoughts.

Looking at these exhaust ports, it always makes me wonder of flow is exiting the port perpendicular to the face. Most headers are built perpendicular to the face.

I have read that some of the Super Stock guys are running smaller than what rules of thumb would suggest exhaust tubing to shifting the tubing up and ignoring the dead space in the lower corner of the port.

We know from Alfa Romeo ports you need to continue the port straight from the head face before turning it.
