Im not sure of which design 1.89 you have. If it looks like a similar carrier to the 1.76 it should have been fine (cast carrier).
If its a steel flimsy looking carrier , thats a oem 1.82 carrier and I use those gearsets in cars that don't exceed approx 600 hp.

I would suggest using the 1.80 planetary. They are as close as we can get to indestructable. Let me know what you have for a carrier first.
Talk to you soon ,Hutch

well it looks anodized like gold and it's light when compared to the stock 1.76 and much smaller tci said it had billet gears I dont know if that helps at all but any way I just went back to a 1.76 and added a launch controller to keep things safe.I guess I exceeded the 600hp mark.

It sounds like you had the small carrier. If you were previously set up with a 1.76 and a dedicated 1.76 input shaft and you went to the small carrier, the input shaft should at that time have been changed. If not the lube circuit to the cooler and the gearset may have been restricted. Im not saying for sure but it can heppen and a gearset with a substandard lube circuit will have a short life.
The std 1.76 can be tough as hell and some guys have great luck with them in some crazy applications. I hope you feel lucky. Mine would smash in the warmup as I have no luck.
When it craps out let me know and I can help send you in the right direction.

Take care ,Hutch
