My gear type posi in my quick change is not very posi, you can turn the pinion and easily hold one axle while the other one turns. Not sure if it is a spring issue or something inside is broken. I have never had one apart and would like to get a bit of a background before I screw this thing up.

Thanks, -Abone.

I have taken apart 9" Eaton truetracs, the bevelled washers in the centre will be in a certain order which provides the preload, other than that it's just the 'twizzle stick' style gears that sit in their own slots.
Undo those cap head bolts bit by bit and the preload should separate the two halves, when the bolts are free carefully take the top half off so the bevelled washers stay in place/order.
