Anyone know if there is any special prep needed to paint an aluminum sheetmetal wing so it lasts and doesn't chip/peel off?

I'd use an Epoxy Primer and don't forget to scuff first-JMHO though-

I use to use zinc chromate primer when I painted aluminium car parts and boats. Not sure if it is still available but it sure worked well.

Zinc works great but I could not get it. What I used on alum is self etching primer, then a sealer primer then paint. This was from a auto paint store.

I know the heat can make aluminum soft but I think it's much hotter then say 400 deg, I used to coat stuff and bake it around 700 deg and the aluminum would be like butter after and it would need to be handled very nicely after.

But the powders now look great when we coated it we would do a quick sand blast clean it then coat it, sometimes hot coated this way the coating would be melting while it's being sprayed, but I would do it cold then bake it.
So if you don't like it you just blow the powder off :)

I might just start my own shop doing this I did it for 10 years a while ago

Sorry no way to post. It's gloss black they told me they used soda to prevent heat warpage. Had all sheet metal done 52 total pieces as far as interior on backhalf car tubs wheelie bar tunnel removable floor all sheetmetal in rear. All came out flawless 4 day turnaround could not have been happier. Allied powder coating in Houston Tx. Best part the wing damn near perfectly matched the paint on the car. The shit is tuff had to drill a hole for DS speed sensor the coating never chipped or flaked.
