I read an article where someone said they did a stock bottom 302 build. Like a 1990 5.0 motor, B303 cam, AFR 185 heads, headers, intake, can't remember if it was 650 or 750 Holley and they said they dyno'd it at 400 hp at the crank @5600 rpm.

Just seems like 400 hp is a lot to get out of a little 302 like this. What do you think? :confused:

I once has a Ranger with a 306. I think it's possible but that Ranger sure as hell didn't feel like it.

Assuming it's .030 over that's only 1.31 per cube. Easy with those heads but kinda iffy with that cam. Pretty happy dyno IMHO

Went to Aluminum 1.7 rocker arms. Success! As expected, the higher-ratio rockers increased the area under the curve of the stock cam, pushing output to 405 hp at 6,200 rpm and 380 lb-ft of torque at 4,300, a gain of 23 hp and 12 lb-ft of torque. And a stock cam!

23 hp gain from rocker arms??? :confused:

Went to Aluminum 1.7 rocker arms. Success! As expected, the higher-ratio rockers increased the area under the curve of the stock cam, pushing output to 405 hp at 6,200 rpm and 380 lb-ft of torque at 4,300, a gain of 23 hp and 12 lb-ft of torque. And a stock cam!

23 hp gain from rocker arms??? :confused:
Wow. Impressive. Like to see a LS do that.

That's doable if all the stars align. Had a garage built b cam 302 with iron roush heads,1.7 rockers and rpm efi intake make 311 to the tires. I think a good builder that sets clearances and tolerances better and lighter valvetrain with the afr's could make 400.

That's doable if all the stars align. Had a garage built b cam 302 with iron roush heads,1.7 rockers and rpm efi intake make 311 to the tires. I think a good builder that sets clearances and tolerances better and lighter valvetrain with the afr's could make 400.
These were on an engine dyno, so im sure your RWHP was also right there! Thank you!

I run a stock cam and 1.7 rockers in my turbo street car(white coupe in my sig)...it runs low 6'[email protected] on 21psi at 3170lbs.306,after 205's,76mm and a 4r70w..still has all factory stuff minus an compressor.

ALUMINUM rockers.....its all in the alloy baby!

Whats funny is the numbers on that antique pushrod engine with stock cam makes around the same power as a new 5.0 with 4 cams and almost 40 valves.Fords are so technologically advanced that it took them all kinds of exotic shit and twice the physical deminsions of their pushrod engine to make almost the same power they could have made with a sbf. If the pushrod engine really is inferior then id rather have the inferior engine

Yeah that 5.0 will make more power and get 2 times the mpg

I Have a 363 in my car built by Coast Performance out of California AFR 205 heads dart block and tuned by Randy Haywood From Wilmington nc mine made 369.9 RWHP mine also as AOD Transmission i hear with 5speed trans i could gain 25 to 30 hp but im not sure ole my motor has hydraulic lifters low compression for turbo if i decide to install one .

I have two good friends that I helped years ago when they were racing the NMRA stock class and with a 302 with gt40P heads and intake with NO porting they both made in the low 300s (RWHP ) on the same dyno and this was with a stock cam. They both ran High 11s @11 /113.
