How many runs do you all get out of your pistons spray 300 or more?

Was wondering what all the nitrous guys are doing to keep your engines alive. I keep still having piston issues. Would like to hear some info on pistons and tune ups. Thanks

you'll probably get more info by posting your set-up
uh......want to bet ?

Everyone is going to post that you run too fat of a tune up.....
yep, I think its too fat;) lol

what kind of issuses exactly? like others said the more info you can post the better they can help.
Pinching the 2nd ring land around 11 and 1 o'clock. 565 conv head 1150 holley with 93 jets. Direct port with 32n 26f at 5.25 running 25 degrees of timing. Car ran it's best number with this tune up. Plugs to me looked like they had color put not fat

LOL! Maybe they are right? :p

48 passes and still good to go. Far from rich with 12 spread at 7.5 psi.

where was the timing mark?what fuel?25degrees sounds like alot to me.

that nitrous tune works good on mine.

what compression does it have?

what piston?what comp height?
still trying to figure out what the burn mark is using ngk plugs. kinda hard to see confusing with the coating coming off or heat. running c16 fuel 15.5 to 1 comp. but cranking comp is around 185. i have tried wiseco and now aries 1.12 comp ht id really like to up the power for next year but id like to get more then 40 passes.
i cant read ngk's at all...thats why i run autolites..just because it ran the fastest there doesnt mean its the best place to run it...with that timing it might be set on kill..i would rather jet up a size and back off on timing..safe and still speed up..i would back the timing down a few degrees..try to post pics of the plugs and pistons on here and alot of guys will try to help.

if you buy another set of pistons i recommend diamond..mike p. is great to work with.

and to anwser you original question..most i have been is 160 runs on a set and a 550hp tuneup..if i can get 100 passes out of a set now i would be happy,i spray more than 550hp now.
Get a set Of Diamonds with the new Hard anodize, they won't last forever but will give you alot more life than you get now.
107 and counting
I ran all year in 2009 and only nipped 1 piston... that was 14 races out of state with 3 units.. (AND 1/4 MILE)
Tried many brands and there all about the same, the secret is in the tune!!
Call Chris at Ross if you want the best experience, he was awesome and their turn around is top notch.

That timing could be a little scary, especially if you're having trouble reading the plug (its not cause the strap is missing is it?:smt110). My conventional head 565 spraying a similar amount started looking pretty good at around 22 degrees. I'm sure I could have put a little more heat in the strap, but it was also still a touch fat, so I don't think I could have gotten away with 25 degrees. My heads are dart 345, cut down to about 116 and only about 14:1.

Not sure if the symptoms really match up with excess timing though?

we got 250 runs on a set of shelf JE nitrous series pistons. The nitrous increases hp somewhere in the 600-700hp range.

Take a close look at the piston and make sure that there is enough meat at the thin area between the valve relief and the ring groove.
sounds like its overtimed. With that tune up I would be a few degrees lower. That 6 jet spread is probably a little fat, but I would also check all your nitrous lines and passages to ensure that there are no blockages.

PS- as a secondary problem, get rid of those Wisecos and get a real piston...LOL

a 6 spread @ 5.25 is fat?????????
Any statement that is it fat or lean is dependant on the carb not being fat or lean. The nitrous system is not the only player in the amount of fuel that's in the in the cylinder. With a nitrous speced piston in a conventional headed BBC, you can miss the tuneup by a country mile and not hurt it.
was thinking about going to an 8 spread to 34n 26f but was told that the 34 really doesnt flow much more then the 32 jet. i was thinking the timing was pretty close with the way the plugs looked. there is really big dome 49.4 cc dome. Thanks again for all the replies All help is appreciated
