How much hp will be gained by using a vacuum pump, low tension rings and gas ported pistons over not using these items? In lets say a 372 small block chevy drag race engine.

as little as 15 and mabye as much as 40. IMO Butch

Well I had mine on the dyno made alot of run's then checked stuff over and ran it the next day and it droped 10 horse couldn't figure it out then I noticed the vacum was off buy about 4 inches and seen the dip stick was out so I pushed it back in and bang my 10 horse came back, put one on a BB and it picked up 27 horse I haven't seen it not help on any given engine yet

Your machinist telling you that it would not be worth any hp, doesn't have a clue. I wish it were true because I wouldn't have to spend 300 dollars on rings, time on gas porting, and 800 bucks for a vacuum pump. Life would be easier.
