Hitachi style mini starters - any good?

Hitachi PE106 is what I use on every race car I've ever owned. Never any problems whatsoever.
You're not kidding. But I still only run an MSD 7AL-2 plus. So no cracking retard. Perhaps this winter that will be an upgrade. But for now I just need a strong starter.

Right now I'm running one on a 408 SBC, 13 to 1, with 40 degrees timing locked out......never missed a beat.

I wouldn't suggest you do that. It's another electronic item that can go wrong and to be honest it will eventually go wrong. Not many people still use those with the 2 box anymore cause of failures. Id rather just keep it locked and have a good starter. JMO

we use one and it has worked flawlessly. We probably running alot less compression though.

I Have ran the Hitachi PE106 for 10 years it still works great
Not really the same topic at all. Although a couple of posts did mention one particular starter that happened to be a mini, my question was a lot more specific than "what's the best BBC starter."
But thanks for the link. I read that whole thread too.
Went with the Powermaster mini. Hope my headers clear..........
