I have a SBC with a F2 makes 1500 hp and 1125 tq.

I am wondering what size headers you all are running and what size primary you recommend.

Also if you were running smaller headers and stepped up to a large say 2 -2 1/4 primary. What difference did you see and was it worth it.

I had a set of 1 5/8 on the motor when it was making 1100 hp and it cooked the Jet Hot coat right off the headers.

Ran 2" stepped to 2 1/8" on a 400 sbc with an F2. Made 1700 HP . As big as you can fit .

Big as you can (within reason) and still keep them sealed against the head. Also.......no steps....waste of time and money.
You guys are saying that steps are a waste?? I need to make a set of headers this winter and want to come off the head with a tube that matches the ex port size to make the initial bend,,say 2 inch then step up in maybe 6 or 7 inches to a 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 tube with a 4 inch collector into the 4 inch exhaust system on there now.
545 inch 2nd gen hemi with a 1071 stage 3 BDS.

What say ye?

I need to make a set of headers this winter and want to come off the head with a tube that matches the ex port size to make the initial bend,,say 2 inch then step up in maybe 6 or 7 inches to a 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 tube with a 4 inch collector into the 4 inch exhaust system on there now.

Steps function is based on Naturally Aspirated engines. Depending on your power output with the blower, the only reason I could see in using steps would be. Need small enough to seal at the port,...but increasing right after that would increase volume exit capacity. But the counter to that is, as the gas exits the port it is cooling and decreasing in volume. So, if your making the kind of power were it would benefit is the question. And we are talking,...all out type application.

1/8th bigger than port gives you the step without the added cost. Gives a little cost break on purchase if buying lemons/ hooker .... standard down and under type.
Plus by 3000rpm , the engine has filled the 1/8th right off the port without any negative effects. 3500rpm and above is where the engine lives.

Since you seem to be fabricating your own then zoomies are the best option.

Speaking of Lemon Headers. Does anyone have any good or bad experiences from their products?

l am waiting for my set to be built and just curious. ( Lemons)

I talked to Dan and he is very nice and knowledgeable about the product... The lead time on them is killing me.:D

I had Lemons build my headers for my supercharged combo. Overall they were good. Had to come up with my own tab system to hold my collectors on as the ones they used kept tearing off. Other than that they did the job.

Zoomies are cool but my brick is street driven often gets exercised so I'll have to stay with the tailpipes out the back bumper.
I have dumpers that open with a band clamp.

I was taught the idea wasd to transition out of the head as smoothly as possible, match the exhaust port exactly in square inches with the corresponding size tubing, then, at some specific distance like 9 or 13 inches, or whatever, step up smoothly, to the collector.
