Can anyone tell me what the significance is of the HD th400? I've got one in my Chevelle that came out of an '88 motor home. Runs and works great with a transgo kit. On the bell housing is cast HD. Does this mean anything? Stronger case or internals? Thanks.

This trans has held up very well in near stock form. Few wheels up 10 second passes. How noisy are the straight cut gear sets? This trans is pretty quiet.

From my experience the "HD" cases seem to be cast a bit thicker; at least in the bellhousing, they also tend to have the aluminum apply pistons instead of the stamped tin junk. Out of four HD cases I've only had one set of straight cut gears, but these trans are far to old to know who/what/when/where/why as to someone having been in them before.
