I just found out my Grandmas 90th birthday party is the same 4 days as the Division 3 bracket Finals in Indy. I look forward every year to going down and representing my home track. It is usually a lot of fun as the guys you normally race against are now on your team. I also usually put it in the schedule that my sponsors get as one of the events I will be attending. I was pretty bummed I missed it last year due to a broken engine so I was really looking forward to going this year.

Today I get an email from my Mom forwarded from my Uncle. My Uncle who is a very successful lawer is getting use of a cabin from some friends of his on a private lake in northern Michigan (the people literally own the whole lake) the same Thursday trough Sunday as Indy. My mom has been to this place and says its incredible they have all kinds of boats and watertoys, trap shooting, a jeep they beat up and down 2 tracks etc. My family is pretty close and pretty big. I have 7 sets of Aunts and Uncles all with at least 3 kids and most have kids of their own now. So it will be a big party. Grandma is the Patriarch of the family and I realize she isn't going to be around forever. She was just in a pretty bad car wreck last week so the idea that we could loose her anytime is pretty fresh in my mind. What would you guys do?

Go racing and tell grandma that you were at the party, it's just that she doesn't remember.

I don't think that would fly she is sharp as a tack remembers all 8 of her kids and their spouses birthdays all 52 grandchildrens birthdays and all 14? or so great grandkids birthdays.

I say goto the birthday party. Racing is fun, but its always going to be there. Be thankful your grandmother is still around at such an age and go celebrate with her and your family.

a 4 day party for grandma???

shes an animal!

You have to party with grandma dude, you dont know when she might pass.

Racing is every year, cherish the time you have with her
You have no idea lol. It wasn't that long ago I remember her coming in the front door of my moms house (about 60 miles away for her) with a six pack of tall boys telling my mom that she thought a cold beer sounded good.

I would have to agree with the others. As much as we all love racing we need to put our families first. All of my grandparents have passed. I think you will regret missing the party more than the race.

To Grandmothers house you go! We just had my grandmas 91st birthday up at the lake. She lives to go there, as I said she just turned 91, and still drives an hour to the cottage every weekend. And every year on her birthday she takes the jet ski for a trip around the lake, (by herself). She would try to get up on skis again if we didn't tell her, no! Go to the party, the race will be there next year.

I had a similar situation with my grandma once (it was running, not auto-racing). She said that she's lived a long and fruitful life, it is time for me to live mine.

I took her out the next weekend for a nice lunch and showed her the trophy, never got grief about it. She passed a few years later, I don't regret it. A birthday is just one day out of the year, you have 364 other opportunities to show her you love her that count a lot more than some scheduled date.
