IMO, and this doesn't mean I'm right. But, buy an overbuilt transmission from a reputable builder like Hughes or ATI. I have a glide that lasted twelve years before it was opened up.

Thats the plan , my hp numbers should be right under 800 comfortably...
I'm assuming no need for an aftermarket Case, just good internals..? makes some difference in $ ... been quoted 2200- 3600 for trans, and 900-1200 converter...?

At that power level I wouldn't do it without an aftermarket case. Shit, I have an aftermarket case in my slow car which goes 10.60's @ 3500lbs, figure I will never break it. Buy once, cry once, never look back. Both of my Glides came from Trans Specialties, I am using their case and 1.80 gear sets. One has an aftermarket pump, the other is a stock pump.

Agree, a stock case is made of potato chips, I've cracked one, and my SFI trans and flywheel shield were an absolute pain, had to drill holes in the firewall to even get to the trans bolts,

I paid about $3500 for mine from TSI. Add a good converter and yeah, you're up to $4500. It is what it is, but you won't regret it.
