Ok i installed all my Gilmer pulleys and belts. what the correct way to set the tension..ive heard they aren't suppose to be tight.well then,,how much slack?

Set it just tight enough that it cant skip a tooth.

so that would be pretty loose right?
right now i have a lil slack and plenty adjustment on the one for the fuel pump..the one for the vacuum pump and alternator seems a lil tight.Ill have to adjust that one tomorrow. slot the motor plate for adjustment. damn motor plate is starting to look like swiss cheese.

The easiest way to set the tension is you should be able to grab the belt and turn it 90 degrees. If you can turn it all the way upside down so the teeth are facing up at you it's too loose. If you can't turn it 90 the belts too tight.

I run probably 1/2" to 3/4" slack in mine, lose enough that I can remove the oil pump belt by sliding it off oil pump pulley so can prime it each morning before engine gets started.

Thanks guys, i think i have it adjusted close. once i start it ill be able to see if every thing lines up..it should.
