Have an old crank that's broken in 2, but before I junk it I wanted to take out the 3-4 slugs of mallory in it. It seems to be pressed in there pretty damn tight. What's a good way to get it out?
Thanks

ive never tried to remove any myself. might try to melt some wax in there with a torch as you heat it up. help pop it out if you have to beat on it.
interesting. that stuff is expensive. doesnt hurt to try and save your investment.

cut a groove in it to the slug to relieve the grip of the crank and tap it out,use a 4 in grinder with a cut off blade works good

Try the brass drift and hammer first. I have never had a problem getting the heavy metal out of any crank using this method. You don't have to hit it too hard and the brass drift will protect the heavy metal.

Hyd press is the way to go. I normally install it (.002" interference fit) with red loctite. You could be hammering a long time. ;)
Well now, that may even cause the brass drift to wear out... LOL!!!

Luckily the few that I have removed heavy metal from didn't have the red loctite.
