Never did read that book but did read a dystopian novel in high school called Anthem. I remember reading it and thinking that I can see one day the world looking like it does in the novel but that'll be 50-100 years from now. Would've never believed that less than 10 years later we would be in such a fucked up world that we currently possess. *edit... I just realized the meaning of the last word of that sentence in context. "WE" do not own the world, it is "THEY" that owns the world...
