I am running 4:86 pro gear in a strange alum center section with 35 spline axles. Trap RPM is maxing out at 6300.

I was thinking about droppin it down to a 4:30 gear.

What you guys think?

how much are you trying to drop down? depending on the converter you may not see much improvement. I would give 4.30's a try but something with your numbers doesn't add up... what times are you turning in this car?

I want enough where can I stay into the gear longer. The RPMs shot up way too fast and I cant stay in the gear long. I was thinking 4:30s as well.

What doesnt add up?

Right now 11.20s AT 119MPH

this is why I think it does not add up. ;)

my car
2680lbs with me in it
approximately 750-800hp
32x14.5w tire
4.30gear
crosses at 7000rpm

I think you have a converter issue... who's is it and how old is it?

Like I said before I would try the 4.30's but given your MPH with your ET I do not see you gaining much if at all..

I should be able to stay in the gears longer right?

Not sure if its a converter issue but I agree the rpm with 4.30 gear doesn't add up. I'm running a 4.30 with a th400,14.5x32,700ish hp, trapping at 6800 I would think with a 4.86 rear gear you would be well into the 7500 rpm range.

I am losing somewhere because my 1/8th mile time is a 7.10 and my 1/4th mile is 11.20s. That is why I wanna switch out the ring and pinion. Thinking the 4.86 gears are too big. I was about to order the 4.30s.
