Is there any reason not to use a Pete Jackson geardrive in a high horspower sbc?

I have them, Swapping them out for a chain. For some reason I just didnt like them. When installed theres slop in the gears, probably tightens when running but I didint like it.

i had one to i heard they gave off harmonics put a belt drive on it

I heard the same, they can also cause false knock in a engine with a knock sensor.

If you want to run a gear drive, run the full cover style with the fixed single idler. I wouldn't use a Pete Jackson style on anything. Otherwise you can either go with a quality chain or a belt setup.

any of the fixed idler ( three gear) type that the backing plate bolts on to the front of block or inside / within the cover itself or "mounting spacer" is as good as you can get...
and then put a cover on top of it.
