I have a 68 Chevelle with a 6.0 LS1 80 MM BW turbo which I just got it finished and it has 29.5/ 10.5 tires and was told it had 410's in it when i bought it so IM thinking 355 would be a better choice gear I'm guessing it weighs around 3600 LBS with a funny car cage or more? I run a FTI 400 trans and a Neal chance converter built for my setup. Hasn't been to the track yet but putting it on a Dyno on the 11th of this month tuned by LOS out of Florida. What gear would you use?
I have a nearly identical combo and I’m going with a 3.40 gear. But I’m setting it up for a lot of street driving. If your strictly drag you will want to figure out your peak rpm for crossing the line. 1/4 1/8 mile?
Sorry, didn't see the 3600lb weight. If you trap around 160ish, 3.73 with converter around 7% puts you at the stripe 300 to 500 past peak hp (assuming 6800 to 7000). If you plan to turn it up, 3.55 will allow for some increase in hp/mph.
I'm 3400# and making 1000 with a 5.3/S480. 3.50 gear on a 275/60 (28") gets me 7200 at the stripe going 152. Hutch 400 and a pro torque 3800-4000 converter.
Tuner said wait until we get it on the dyno and tune on it he'll be able to determine the correct gear that way I won't have to do it twice which i agree. I'll post results once we get it sorted out on the 11th.
