Was looking thru book and noticed diamond piston with top and lateral gas ports. Is anyone else doing this. I have always just ran top gas ports. Is it worth it to help seal ring.

I ran lateral only and it works just fine. Could not run top ports due to piston design.

We had a set of JE's with both and I never really cared for them, our new Arias have laterals only. I never liked having top ports near the thin part of the piston on the shroud of the intake and exhaust valves, when it starts getting hot that will be the first spot to collapse... JMO

I got acouple questions for you guys.

1. If you dont want the gas ports near the valve reliefs, then why not just not put them there. It doesnt need to be equally spaced. We are just trying to get the pressure in the chamber to "see" the ring faster.

2. How can a lateral gasport be as effective as a vertical while under operating conditions the clearance between the top ring land and the bore is minimal due to the expansion of the piston?

Just want to see your opinions.
