220 minus your age = theoretical max. heartrate

max heartrate x .85 (85%) should be a good place to start.

cycling is the best thing you can do if you have troublesome knees. it strengthens all the muscles, ligaments, etc etc without all the pounding that running gives your joints.

I KNOW....CARDIO IS GREAT....BUT CHOLESTEROL LEVELS ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT....LDL AND HDL LEVELS ARE EASY TO MONITOR WITH A SIMPLE BLOOD TEST.

HAVE THEM CHECK YOUR TESTOSTERONE LEVELS WHILE YOUR THERE :p

I keep it around 190 then cycle up to 200 and then go all out for the last 5min of the 45min program i use, which ends up around 220 before cool down.
