looking at building a 70/71 El Camino which eventually will need to run 9s can I get there with modified stock rear or should I just go big tyre and 4 link? obviously trying to avoid doing the job twice thanks

A 15x10 wheel / 28x10.5S slicks with decent (i.e. NO rubber or polyurethane bushings) solid adjustable uppers, lowers, spherical housing bearings, and double adjustable shocks combined with a housing that can handle the power is all you would need. 7's and 8's are fairly common with that setup nowadays, so 9's would be no big deal. Maybe a little bit of control arm mount bracing on the frame-side of the uppers and lowers to keep them from moving.

I agree with some Global West Del a lums for bushings in the front control arms, the front end will be as important as the back

Yes we do. Our Stage 3 rear kit includes double adjustable uppers and lowers, spherical housing bearings, anti roll bar, and double adjustable shocks.
