Here is a printable letter from the Canadian Government to help you cross the border.
In addition we suggest you have a short list of tools, generators, etc (which is good for insurance purposes too)
And you will also need government issued photo ID (If they ask) i.e. drivers license or passports or birth certificate, etc

And you CANNOT have a criminal record

Campfire wood and fresh produce is a no-no as well

Here is the link:

IF you have things like this you will virtually walk through customs, unless you are wearing Monty's new cologne, or your name is Mark Walter.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us at 519-752-3705, or myself at 1-888-214-7774. We are starting the journey out there ourselves, so emails might get a bit hit and miss .

This is the form US citizens are going to have to use to cross the border with their race cars and contents for racing.Just a breif discription on what you have in the trailer, such as tools, spare tires, wheels, genorator, golf cart, race car, anything of real value.Give as much info as you can filling out the form, serial numbers etc.

You must stop on the US side and have it inspected and SIGNED.Same when returning back into the USA

This is the form I have and have always used.

You have just been normal, as the border is not near what a lot of people make it out to be. If you are a crackhead trying to cross they will have lots of questions for you, lol. To most people it is just like going through a toll booth.

The form Tom has is the official version of the list we suggest everyone has. The border guard may or may not ask for a list of contents. Technically you should already have a list like this for your day to day insurance company. Same as a list of the contents of your house. It is really important because if your house burns to the ground, you have no proof of the contents without the list.

The Letter Trish posted is great to have as it shows the border gaurd that you are going to a registered event, the government is already aware of it, etc. Just a way of showing you are legit, and if they had any questions about duty, they would know there is none.

Just all precautions to take to make sure that if your number is pulled, you are prepared. Which will make the border guard happy, quickly. But most of the time you are going to get more questions about driving your car, or the car itself, than questions to do with the border.

They will also be more concerned about you carry fresh produce like apples or corn and fire wood, than you carrying pot or cocaine.

But as Michele said, it is usually really, really easy.

It is very easy, and as long as everyone has I.D. and a clean record you're not going to have a problem. We cross to race in Michigan, Ohio and NY quite often. We've actually been across so much that we've started running into the same border guards. They always want to check out the car! ;)
