What are the guys making 1200 RWHP range using? I'm switching to a power glide, in a 3100 pound 4th gen F body. Looking to run in the 5.2 range in the 1/8 eventually. LS motor on a 36 jet. Will probably step up to a 40. Maybe more.
What diameter, wall thickness, material are you using? Was thinking 3.5x 083 chrome Molly. Would there be any advantage to going to a 4" aluminum?
Thanks
Roger

3200 lbs, 1050 HP I used an aluminum PST with zero issues for years.
On the P/M. T/S car I was a little worried, so I went with a Mark Williams moly certified piece.

Thanks guys. I never thought about that. Just broke a mild steel shaft. And yep, it did a number on the car. Unfortunately, I don't have the funds for CF. I went with a Nick Williams 4130 shaft.

The repairs on the car probably were significantly more than the difference between the cost of steel vs carbon. You might also consider a rear driveshaft loop that can prevent a lot of damage if it lets go as well.

I used driveshaft specialist out of San Antonio . 3.5 .083 wall with good yokes. Great company to deal with and very reasonably priced. Ordered it and it was delivered to me in the same week.

I just broke the driveshaft on mine last friday night crossing the stripe. Ripped the loop off, mangled all of the exhaust, put a hole in the floor, and totally destroyed the transmission case. What a mess.

How long the shaft is will effect what size you need. I would ask a driveshaft expert what you need.

but that's great info..any ET gains by going to the featherweight stick ?

As usual, great advice Monte, and I'm selling off all my moly D/S immediately.
I'm only a few inch's from the D/S, cheap insurance in case the loop fails.

They aren't featherweight but the amount of weight you save will depend on the length. Ours is 38" and it saved 3-4 lbs. Most of the weight is in the yoke, U-joints, etc. but they are extremely strong.

Mike has all the horror stories pretty much stopped now??
I know I heard of a bunch of failures when they started to become popular.
Guys were claiming they had to bring several just in case??
