anyone here any good with the dodge a518 transmission's? im rebuilding the one out of my brothers durango (1999) modle, what i found is the kick-down band was smoked, i mean it did'nt have any friction left on it at all and it killed the reverse drum with it... what would cause this? also is there any problems or tricks i should check out before i start going back together?

99 is still a hydraulic shift to 2 and 3 .Check acc piston and it is possible that the band adjustment wasnt correct or the screw backed out.was any other clutch back burnt?Be sure to replace governor switch as well.

all the 518s are hydraulic 1-2 2-3 i use sonnax sure cure kits on mine they work great for everyday driver replace electronics in pan you can use 727 steels and 518 steels mixed togethor to get forward and direct clearance right. put a bearing kit in and both sprauges . 518 has 8 direct clutches in o/d unit unless it is diesel then there is more, replace the waved snap ring in o/d unit with new one, they break alot.watch front clutch waved snap ring for brakeage a flat one in this spot makes for better shift but dont get clearance too tight. tighten end play after o/d unit is on transmission order a washer kit too. watch reverse servo for cracking also, replace bushings, you will need a press for o/d spring and use a precision convertor

thanks guys,
the only clutches burnt was in the hi-reverse, it also strip the splines off the forward drum clutch-hub, I had to beat the damn drum off the hub to get it off, but other than that all was pretty good, my brother said that it was acting -up for sometime and would go away and drive great for awhile, these must be pretty tuff transmission's. but thanks again for all your help.
good day
