Trying to set up a 44 for a guy who started the job himself. Great I know. The carrier with new ring will not sit all the way into the bearing saddles with the pinion in place. I'ts like the pinion is too big in diameter. Do they make different gears for different years? I was told they have different rotation gears for trucks that run the pinion above or below center but the helix on the old and new pinion are the same. What the hell am I missing? Thanks!

They make different heights of carriers depending on what gear ratio originally came on them.

Sounds like the wrong carrier for the gear they want to go to... The 3.73 is the carrier split for the D-44

Meaning that they use one carrier for 3.73 and up and a different carrier for lower ratios? Or something close to that?

yes one carrier works for 3.73 and down and one works for 3.92 and up (numerically)
