Re: cylinder head porn ?

Yes the profiler heads are good, .. how they compare to an 11º
heads is a tough question, ..

WHO's 11º head?, .. and built for what application?

Out of the box it's not a good comparison, .. one's ported and one isn't.

Yup, I've done a bunch of Profilers, .. for a quick bracket car,
turbo deal or something, good valve job with a little bowl / throat
porting and a touch of chamber work, they make very good power.

11 degree darts. Plus what kind of flow no.s could you get out of them? Can you also do intakes along with the heads. Plus what's average HP figures have you seen with your Profiler's 12*? Thanks for your replies, Curtis!

Ricky, we only get a short side peak on those? That's like soft porn, you have a bunch of Hustler addicts over here!

Sorry about that Ace, but the ports are a long way from finished.
I still have some minor alterations I'm gonna make on the valve locations, and when I get everything closer to being finished, I'll post some more detailed pictures.

This is definitely one of those projects that keeps me awake at night!

Wow!! Probably one of the best threads ever. Nice to see everyone's work and see what they are doing with different heads, some really nice designs and some that I wonder how well that would run? Lots of cool stuff. Its nice to know there are that many talented individuals out there doing this stuff.

Re: cylinder head porn ?

Eddie,

Don't know how much it will weigh when we actually get finished with it and machine a full size head, but it definitely needs to weigh less than 50#.

This whole light weight thing is really wearing me out lately.
We've been lightening blocks, heads, intakes, fuel rails, you name it.

I think cylinder heads and women should have a little meat in the right places:p

Unfortunately, now when the phone rings, the customer will have this list of questions:
1. How much will it flow?
2. How much power will it make?
3. How fast will it make my car run?
4. HOW MUCH DOES IT WEIGH?

ha ha, gotta love the adrl and no minimum weights

I thought this might be a good place to ask. Say you have a head that flows 415cfm with a 2.250" stainless valve. Can you gain more airflow with a titanium valve of same size? What about going from a 11/32 stem to a 5/16?

The valve material itself will not change anything, you might be able to change some of the dimensions of the valve and gain flow/stability.

The change from 11/32 to 5/16 is going to gain you more throat size, and that will help IF that is the limiting factor in the head.

That is what I meant, as far as the shape. My head guy says he can gain more cfm with a titanium valve over a stainless. I was just wondering if anyone had any back to back test.

Re: cylinder head porn ?

The mixture in the port will not recognize the material of valve, just the actual shape as in the stem size, under head radius, backcuts, margin and so on.....
He must have tested a 24*tulip type exh valve v.s. a nailhead valves on a large venturi exh port and seen the big diff in cfm... thats the only thing i can see.
The lighter valves will be worth rpms and help with the acceleration of the engine speed, it will make your valvetrain happier (valvesprings) as well..

Re: cylinder head porn ?

fast,
Yes often a titanium can gain some flow over stainless for a few reasons, .. but I'd question if its
the change in valve size ( bigger ? ) or the shape, .. or the ability to run better seat angles.

In a well designed port / VJ tyhe gains are often rather small in the overall picture of things, ..
BUT the other advantages may add up to a good reason to spend the cash.
You gain valve train stability, and that along could be worth power you'll never see on some flowbench.

Re: cylinder head porn ?

He has mentioned all these benefits, and I trust him totally. Just tring to decide if i want to put that much more into it. Just wanted some before and after results if anyone has them. He is saying close to 425 with the ti valve, over the Ferrea I sent with the heads(which is 415 now).
