Read these and tell me what you think...

Me: I'm interested in your 95 dodge for sale. If you can give me a call at 229 378 xxxx or 229 327 xxxx. Thank you

Him:Hello and sorry for the late reply. hope i'm not too late and you didn't already purchased another truck.
For sale is my 1995 Dodge Ram SLT 2500 4x4 cummins diesel regular cab laramie in immaculate condition with only 99,326 miles, rust free, no scratch (except few minor nicks if you look real *close) and hasn't been involved in any accident. engine is a 5.9l inline 6 cylinder 12 valve cummins turbo diesel with an automatic transmission and a manual 4wd transfercase. Has power cloth interior, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, power steering, polished wheels with good tires, alpine am/fm/cd player, ice cold a/c, tilt steering column with leather wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, towing package, bed liner, step bars, 3 keys, all books and manuals, all heavy duty options, front dana 60 straight axle with 4.10 gears, rear spicer 70 axle with limited slip and 4.10 gears, storage shelves behind seats, etc.... this truck needs nothing and comes with a clean title.
I want this transaction to be smooth and i don't have much time at my disposal to waste my time with endless discussions. I believe $2,600.00 (not negotiable) is more than a fair price.
Thank you, **

If you need more pics just ask.
* thanks

Me:Do you have time today to meet? We are only an hour away from Valdosta. 2600 sounds good and me and my dad are very familiar with these year model trucks and the description sounds good, so does the price. If you have time today, we can ride over and check it out.

Thank you,

Him:The car is at Hanscom AFB, MA where i am currently stationed, until Oct 6th, when I will be deployed to Afghanistan. This is why I must sell it before that. Shipping won't be a problem for me. I will take care of that, witht no costs on your end.*
This is a large amount and I would like to conduct the deal using an authorized third party like eBay using their Purchase Protection Program, so this should eliminate any trust issues. They will keep a deposit until the purchase is final, and you test and accept the car. If you will not get the car as described, and also a clean title you will receive your money back.
To be able to use this program you need to qualify. I have been approved 3 years ago and I was very satisfied. So, if you are interested in buying my car just let me know your name and shipping address.
I will forward them to eBay's protection program and wait for the approval.

Me(after I looked into it some and saw that you can't use ebay PPP for a 3rd party, wanted to see how legit this guy was): A good friend of mine lives in Mass. He could meet you and I could wire him the money. How does that sound?

Him: As I've told you , I am in Hanscom AFB, MA,on a military base getting ready for Afghanistan. I do a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want. The shipping wont be a problem and I will do it at no cost to you. You will receive the truck along with all the documents including title, bill of sale, full service records and more... The payment will be handling by eBay and you will benefit of *the 5 day inspection time period and the option to accept or reject the car on my expense. So, if you are interested in buying my car just let me know your legal name and shipping address.
Hope to hear from you soon

I looked it up some on google and this is one of the biggest craigslist scams out there. They want you to put down a deposit on the truck so he can "ship" it. Then you never hear anything else out of him. And then this piece of shit poses as a lieutenant about to be deployed. People like this need some serious jail time!

This is how alot of the scammers are doing it. They all wan't to use ebay which ebay doesn't have a program for this.
Same old stories, I am going to do another tour in the Army and need to sell. They are everywhere.
I'd keep pushing him on having your buddy pick up the truck!...
I doubt the guy works 24hrs. a day!...
He'll probably stop responding to you!... :smt102
My ignorant friend almost fell for this with a newer Impala. I literally had to talk him out of it.
The emails were in almost the exact same format.
I used to work at AutoTrader.com and I saw *thousands* of emails like this.

Here's a hint: anytime you see "Hello, and sorry for the late reply", trust me, it's a scam 100% of the time.
Craigslist is a website that is designed for LOCAL sales with primarily with CASH. If people fail to read Craigslist's huge warnings that they post on pretty much every page, they deserve to be ripped off.

It's a very easy rule to follow to avoid being scammed on craigslist: deal local Face to face with cash!
as a matter of fact, here's over 5000 examples of it being a scam:

I had a guy try this on me a few years back on a Mach 1! He said he was in london and the car was is mass. I told him I would buy him a plane ticket to meet me to pick it up, never heard from him again! Lol
LOL I got some dumbass on the hook right now trying to purchase a car from me wants me to set up a Paypal account and send him my address & other misc info (yeah right) to arange a payment. I told him to have his COURIOR (going to have a 3rd party pick up vehicle with out even looking at it) bring the cash and will be done, now he is out of the country on business! I will keep emailing him just for fun!:-D Told him I was old and not really good with computers too!

I did the exact same thing to a Craigs list scammer who tried to sell me his Harley before he was deployed.I kept leading them for about 3 months until they stopped replying to my e-mails.

Usually they are from overseas and no one wants to get involved to proscute.I tried and got no where.
Anybody who tried this shit posing as US military should be digging latrines in Helmand Province within 48 hours.
Been there, done that! SCAM!

I agree!
impersonating a soldier....should be shot just for saying it...
X2....hang them in the local town square of whatever shithole country they live in and the others doing it will knock it off. I just want to meet the guy who is gullible enough to fall for their idiotic scams.
i actually got a phone # from one of those scammers 602-914-7863 they sound kinda ghetto
