I have to switch my Hemi Scoop for a cowl since I can't get any airflow to the carb. This is going on a factory hood so lift-off is not an option.
My question is how close do I need to get the cowl opening to the windshield?

Really depends on the shape of the cowl & windshield and how airflow comes off the front of the car and to that area(like I dont know about your car). If you get it too close it will pass right over the top of the car....if you get it too far away it will cause tirbulance and never get in there either. You almost have to start with it too close and start trimming it back after each pass and watch the air/fuel reading. I know...what a pain in the rear, but in my opinion there is no set distance...really depends on the cars shape.

I've made 9 Passes on the car so far. It seems that as soon as I get to a good MPH the car starts flubbering all over. I tried my air pan and it got worse. Upto 1/8 mi it was getting good air, after that, it went away. I strung a line from the tip of the nose piece to the windshield and the scoop was never in the airstream. Terrible 60's, but that's a Suspension + MSD issue I'm working on. The last pass was my brother driving.. He hasn't driven a sub 12 second care ever, so I think he did good. (other than staying in it as the care went HARD left) Scared the shit out of me, but still managed the best 60' spinning the tires.
