what type of drive shaft/convertor slip are you getting?

Have changed stators to tighten up our slip but not has changed much we getting around 1.06 to 1.07 thru the lights

info on car combo top sportsman RJ car 710 hemi w/300 nos shot (1700/1800 hp)

power glide trans 1.80 first 4.11 rear, convertor flashes to 6600/6800 we shift at 7800 go thru lights at around 8100/8200 [email protected]
rpm drop on 1/2 shift 900/1100 range
have a neal chance convertor R15 pump with a 6V25* stator

was thinking a different convertor or should we just live with this one.

Any info would help thanks

I've never used a Chance converter so I'm not familiar with how they work or look on a graph. I'm running an Abruzzi and no slip thru the lights--my setup is pretty similar to yours--710", shift a 7800, converter falls back to 7000ish and go thru lights around 7900. 1.80 1st, 4.10 rear, 34.5" tire.

I'm not sure if the converters that show no slip are any quicker/faster or not. I like it that it keeps the engine rpms down a little bit.

IMHO only way to know for sure would be to try another converter and see.

I would be more concerned about the slippage earlier in the run than at the end. How did the respond when you changed stators? Did it accelerate better down low with the tighter or looser stator? Did it pick up at all in the 330 or 660 when it was tighter? Did the slippage change right at the point when the car goes into high gear?

your only putting 1478 hp to the ground, your motor is still pulling but its a700+ ci which has a ton of torque + nitrous on top of it ,I think you should drop down to 3.90s and have the converter changed/checked

Dropping RPM and going to a taller gear will likely result in the car slowing down. My head is different than his, but most TS type motors I'm around have no problem with RPM and don't like being lugged down. My motor runs best with the converter around 7000-7100. It's at least .05 and almost 2mph faster this way than with the converter around 6600.

I tried a 3.89 in my car once...took me once pass to figure the car , converter and engine did not like it.

Engine doesn't like to be lugged, it likes slip had a27* but 60 ft dropped off.
What is your launch rpm's and where is your max torque at ours peaks at 5900, HP at 7500
have been launching at 4800 not sure if I should try to come out at higher 5500?

Thanks

I have not dynoed the engine since I bought it. Dyno sheets from previous owner showed peak torque at 6500, but it was pretty broad and torque readings were very similar from 6000-7000. They stopped pulling at 7800 and that's where the peak HP was. I've had head and intake work done since that I know increased the power, but I have not put it on a dyno.

I launched at 4300 and the 1st kit comes on at 0.

I'm not familiar with Chance converters/stators--is the 27 tighter than the 25? Is that spray on at 0?

my Comp RJ 2440 lb Cavalier racecar 715 ci with 0 nitrous and a 10" Coan convertor, Bruno drive unit and 3spd manually shifted Lenco transmission, launch 4900 rpm, 34.5 " tire and 4.29 gears, current NHRA national record holder 6.59 et @ 211.16 mph. If I removed the 100 lbs of ballast for TS I think 6.40's. Shift 8200 rpm, engine drops approx. 900 rpm between shifts

That's a bad 715. What cylinder head? Builder?

Hi Frank, I am the only current NHRA national record holder in Comp with a Sonny's Hemi/Bruno and 3 spd Lenco in A/AP @ 6.59 et @ 211.16 mph and carrying an 100 lbs of additional weight on my RJ Cavalier racecar than competing with you in Top Sportsman. I look forwarded to NHRA mountain motor racing in 2020 as I have the only Sonny's NHRA national Racecar in comp class record holder to support the mountain motor Prostocks
