In response to the Gov. clunker program, I was thinking about a flag or bumper sticker for my old 86 460 powered F350 crew cab. This of course is based on the Gonzales Flag of 1835 in Texas. What do you think? Got any other good ideas for a "clunker" bumperstick in favor of keeping your classic or old car?

There is a couple beat up trucks around Frederick area that have bumperstickers that say " you keep you cash, ill keep my clunker" I thought it was pretty funny. Im waiting to see a big cash for clunkes sticker with a big red circle and line through it

The thing that cracks me up is people that are trading their cars in, the cars were probably worth the 35-4500 anyways. I see pics on the news every damn day and these trade ins are nice looking cars.

According to my buddy who owns a towing business, repossessions are going to be bringing him some good profits. We'll see if those who are cashing in with their clunker can actually afford these new cars.

Man some of you guys are so negitive about everything, you think these are prize vehicles that are getting the cash for clunker money.
Guess what, they are turds that need more repairs than the vehicle is worth and the reason people are beating a path to the dealerships is because they know that it is free money.

These gas hogs need to be crushed and if you want one I know that you can find them everywhere from people that did not qualify and I am sure they will sell them for less than the $4,500 the government was paying. The public auctions are full of them and believe me they don't bring anywhere near $4,500.

I remember when Cuda's, Camaro's, Mustangs, Chevelle's and others were being scrapped and that made me sick.
The vehicles they are crushing today need to be crushed and are just polluting and wasting gas anyway.

It may be temporary, but i work for a gm and chrysler dealership, and it was nice to actually see a spark in our bussiness. i realize it is taxpying dollars, but its going to taxpayers. would you rather they gave the executives at gm a few more billion to go to yahiti with? as far as the clunkers go, the ones u see on television are a selected few, the ones we have traded for would barely be worth 4500.00 for all 25 of the pieces of shit. im not trying to start shit, i just get tired of hearing about how shitty of a deal it is when i guess im the only one who sees the benefit.......or maybe the 257,000 people who traded thier junk in the first week saw it too...........

Obviuosly I cant tell how well the car runs by a pic on the news but seriously, the pic they show the cars look nice. I have a old 94 Tempo with only 88k miles runs great. I woul trade it in in a heartbeat but I cant afford another payment.

Trust me if the dealers thought they were worth they would buy them themselves and not have to jump through all the hoops involved in getting the money from uncle sam. Your right the prices for a new car or truck are stupid high, but thats the good ole american way.

Guess what a tempory fix is better than no money moving through the economy. But this has sparked a lot of car sales, not just new cars but used is doing great as well.

Some of the cars are being traded in instead of using Cash 4 Clunkers and then the vehicles can be re-sold instead of being recycled

I guess we all could sit around and complain about how shitty the economy is or we can make something happen.
Remember a recession is because people are not spending, they are holding on to it because they are unsure about the future.
The money did not dissapear, it is still out there, it is just being held

Well it sucks for me, I work in auto chemicals for repair...I dont make enough money to afford a car payment even with $4500 given away....And the newest car I own is a 1975 and isnt even near new enough to be in the program.

Tell me how this is benefitting me? I do pay taxes...And I aint seeing a dime from any of this.
Its a temporary thing for sure. Its our tax money for sure. Just think how crappy car sales will be once the money runs out.

I pretty well figured the auto industry was in deep crap when they did the 0% financing...And the warranties started going to 60,000,100,000, and now Lifetime drivetrain warranty...Every time one of those "new" programs rolled out it hurt our business a little bit. I didn't complain because it was businesses trying to stay afloat in a capitalist society. Alls fair.

But once the government owns it and then does this crap I dont have to accept this anymore and be quiet about it. This is becoming a government handout to people in certain demographics...Probrably trying to buy the votes of these people for the next round of socialism.

Yeah a few people have taken great advantage of the program...Some really needed cars...Others did it just because all the hype and to keep up with the joneses.

The worst problem is the program never should have happened....Then since it did...It should have only been eligable for cars assembled in the USA. Most of these people are running out and buying Hyundai's and Kia's...

the thing that I think really sucks is that they purposely drain the oil and blow the engines up. So those of us who still try to make race motors out of factory blocks are soon going to run out of blocks. (not really run out but there going to start to be harder to find)

just my .02
