In 1965, two boys, friends of my Cousins, were killed by lightning while taking shelter under a tree, hunting

My wife and I where standing under our front porch during a rare SoCal rain storm when lightening hit a palm tree about 50 yards from us. It blew crap off the tree out into the street and we could see smoke from the debris and some coming from the palm tree.

When things cleared up we went to check out the palm tree and believe it or not you could hardly tell it had been hit by lightening.
