Yesterday was our first race at the Douglas dragway. Douglas was first opened up By John Knuckle in the early 80s. Known as the Douglas international raceway. It was leased by John and others over the last 3 and a half decades. See hare Wyoming's Lone Drag Strip Closed For Good By Local City Council.

After a few years with no track close and a late night in a parking lot. We started a non profit organization called CWM. See us on facebook. The guys and gals consisted of our secretary with a business degree in management and her husband who owns part of a road and bridge company. The second couple are real-estate agents. Next is a co worker and his girl friend. He's an electrician instrument tech. Just like me. His girl run an oil and gas parts and roustabout service. Along the way we picked up a guy who works for the state of WY. land management. Then a nephew and the wife and I .

Last summer A guy from Douglas that run a car show there asked the city and the county if he could hold a race at the track. He had limited help so CWM offered to help. Street cars only and and arm drop race came to be. Over 100 cars showed up and 400 spectators. This led us to asked for a lease for the 2020 season. Granted we were.

With lots of rules do to covid, a new building at the end of the track and so on. We were allowed to race 1/8th mile. June 20th came quick and the race was on. We had 129 car count and almost 1400 spectators. We only ran T.O/grudge. Along with a big tire and small tire shootout.

Thanks for all the support
Ray

We have 4 races scheduled this year. No the track is not reopened per say as a nhra sanctioned track nor will it ever be per say. Racing has changed. However we did get a yea lease. That was all the other track managers received. as of now we are hoping to show the city and county we can bring racing back. In a good way of course. You have to open one door at a time.

^ good luck to you guys I hope the city/county lets it open full time. You do not need NHRA or IHRA to have a track. There are many successful "outlaw" tracks. To tell you the truth, after looking at the pic in the link , with all those homes or business around, it ain't going to happen.

I didn't realize it's been shut for five years. In Wyoming you sure wouldn't think urban encroachment would be an issue but that track is really in the center of town.

.

It's beautiful country that's for sure.

Has it ever been a thriving track, is there enough people in the area to support a full schedule, twice a week at least??
Maybe not 4 days a week like a big city area??

Good for you guys. We used to love going there for the divisional back in the late 80s through about 01 or so. We had decent luck there. Dad won super stock in back to back seasons and we set a national record one year also.

This will most likely be an outlaw track for the time we an use it. We have long winters and short summers. The track usually opened mid may and ran to sept 15. In it's hay day they only ran every other weekend. As time passed the racing drew less and less participants and spectators. Our goal is to keep racing alive in a big fashion. Don't over race the area. It's a long ways for people to travel. The people that will have a track in their backyard.

Yes this track is in the middle of town. The oilfield booms and bust around here. We hope drag racing helps the economy on the weekends we race. It may be a love hate with the community. Hopefully more love.

Seems like a good, logical starting goal to me. Wish all of you complete success doing it!
